5 Basic Types of Fasteners:

 Number 1: Bolts

Bolts are fasteners that are used to connect two or more objects together. They are usually made of metal and have a head larger than the bolt's body. The head of the bolt is usually round or hexagonal in shape. There are many different types of bolts, but the most common type is the hex bolt.

Bolts are classified according to their diameter, length, and thread pitch. The diameter of a bolt is measured from the outside of the threads. The length of a bolt is measured from under the head to the end of the bolt. The thread pitch is the distance between adjacent threads on the Bolt.

Bolts are made from a variety of materials, including steel, brass, stainless steel, and aluminum. The most common type of steel used for bolts is carbon steel.

Number 2: Nuts

A nut is a fastener with a threaded hole. Nuts are almost always used in conjunction with a mating bolt to fasten multiple parts together. The two partners are kept together by a combination of their threads' friction (with slight elastic deformation), a slight stretching of the bolt, and compression of the parts to be held together.

Number 3: Washers

A washer is a thin plate with a hole in the middle that is used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, such as a bolt or nut. Washers are usually metal or plastic. The most common type of washer is the flat washer. Other types include lock washers, tooth lock washers, star lock washers, and spring lock washers.

Flat washers are most commonly used in conjunction with machine screws and bolts. Machine screws are available with both inch and metric threads. Metric flat washers are generally made to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards. Inch flat washers are generally made to United States Military Standard (MIL-STD) standards. Flat washers protect surfaces by providing a greater bearing surface area.

Number 4: Rivets

A rivet is a fastener used to join two or more pieces of metal together. It is inserted into holes in the pieces of metal and then expanded by hammering or pressing, so that it cannot be removed. Rivets are commonly used in the construction of aircraft, ships and cars.

There are three main types of rivets: solid, semi-tubular, and tubular. Solid rivets are the most common type and are made from a single piece of metal. Semi-tubular rivets have a hollow center and are usually made from aluminum or brass. Tubular rivets have a hollow body with a solid head and are made from steel or stainless steel.

Number 5: Pins

A pin is a fastener that joins two or more objects together. Pins are often used to hold the fabric together, but they can also be used to join wood, metal, or other materials.

Pins come in many different sizes and styles. The most common type of pin has a small head and a long, thin body. But there are also pins with larger heads, shorter bodies, and even no heads at all.

Pins are typically made of steel or brass. But you can also find them in plastic, aluminum, and even stainless steel. No matter what material they're made of, pins all serve the same purpose: to keep things together.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are five basic types of fasteners: buttons, zippers, snaps, hooks, and velcro. Each type of fastener has its own unique benefits and drawbacks. When choosing a fastener for a project, it is important to consider the function of the fastener and the materials it will be used with.
